Chunky patent jacket is knitted back and forth with double thread on thick needles. You cast on the back piece and the two front pieces separately to form slits in the sides. This is to make the patent hang nicely around the waist and hips without bunching. The parts are knitted together at the waist, and then divided again at the armholes. You cast off over the shoulders from the wrong side with a third needle, see under "Tips" for explanation. This creates a flexible edge with good hold, which keeps the shoulders in place. All edges are knitted with single thread on thinner needles. This gives a beautiful effect, with the rough against the smooth.

The jacket is half-length, and has an oversized fit. The patent is stretchy and moves when worn. It has therefore been chosen to have collective sizes in this pattern, as several people can fit the same size.
