The Osamu garter stitch sweater is an oversized raglan sweater knitted from the top down. It is knitted with 2 threads in different colors for a melange effect. First, knit back and forth with raglan increases while increasing to the neckline. Then cast on stitches mid front, gather the piece and continue knitting in the round while continuing the raglan increases. When the raglan increases are finished, divide the piece and finish the body and sleeves separately. Choose between knitting them in the round or back and forth. Towards the end of the sleeves and body, first bind off evenly, before changing to thinner needles. This creates the rounded shape. Finally, knit up stitches around the neck opening, and knit the neckline as a wide I-cord bind off. If the sleeves and body are knitted back and forth, sew them together at the side of the body and midway under the sleeves. For an oversized shape, choose a size with a chest width 30-40 cm larger than your own.
