Le Knit - Foundation Cardigan - Paper
The Foundation Cardigan is an easy-to-knit raglan cardigan. A true basic cardigan - hence the name - that works with most types of yarn and is easy to make your own. The Foundation Cardigan is knitted from the top down. It has reverse rows so that the neckline is higher at the back than at the front. The front edges and neckline are knitted last.

Construction
The Foundation Cardigan is knitted from the top down. The top is knitted in reverse rows to create the shape of the neckline, and at the same time the raglan increases are knitted. When all the raglan increases are knitted, the sleeve stitches rest and the back/front pieces are finished back and forth on the needle. The sleeves are then knitted in the round. Finally, the front edges and neckline are knitted, and buttons are sewn on.
Size selection
The Foundation Cardigan is intended to have a range of motion of approximately 12-20 cm. Here the bouclé jacket is shown with a range of motion of 16 cm. The grey jacket is shown with a range of motion of 24 cm and is knitted 5 cm longer. This means that if you want more or less range of motion, choose a size larger or smaller. It is also easy to adjust the length.
Find your chest measurement (or the largest measurement of your torso). Then look at the measurements listed first in the pattern (these are the finished measurements of the jacket). Positive ease is the difference between the measurements you took of yourself and the jacket measurements.
For example, if your waist is 94 cm, a size M will give you a range of motion of 13 cm (107 cm - 94 cm = 13 cm). A size L will give you a range of motion of 20 cm (114 cm - 94 cm = 20 cm).
*Length is measured at the center back (excluding neckline).
